Top 10 most expensive dogs in the world

Monday, February 28, 2011

The most popular dog breeds are not the most expensive dog breeds, but the luxury dogs rate high in the top of the list. Popular dog breeds change from year to year and from country to country; and so do the most expensive dogs in the world.

What Makes a Dog Expensive?

There are a variety of factors which make dogs expensive. Purity of breed or their rarity can make dogs extremely expensive. When they are offspring from price winning dogs the prices can skyrocket too, but the biggest factor is the C-factor. As soon as a dog is spotted or photographed in possession of a celebrity, the dog’s price will shoot beyond the moon. It has happened in the past, and it will happen in the future.

Top Ten of Expensive Dogs

1 – German Sheppard $3.000 – $24.000

2 – Cavaller King Charles Spaniel $1.000 – $14.000

3 – Samoyed $4.000 – $11.000

4 – English Bulldog $2.500 – $9.000

5 – Chow Chow $3.000 – $8.500

6 – Rottweiler $2.000 – $8.000

7 – Tibetan Mastiff $2.200 – $7.000

8 – Pharaoh Hound $2.500 – $6.500

9 – Bearded Collie $1.000 – $5.000

10 – Akita $1.500 – $4.500

An exciting list of dog breeds, and unfortunately some very popular dogs did not make it to the top ten. What happened to the Golden Retriever, Komondor, Malteser Terrier, Bichon Frise, Norfolk Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier and the Australian Sheppard? All popular dogs but they did not make it into the top ten of most expensive dogs 2011.

It's a dog's life! Russia's canine chic defies financial crisis

Monday, April 27, 2009

by AFP

While Russia's two-legged population feels the financial pinch, designer lines from sportswear to mink coats, evening gowns to bootees are being snapped up... for the nation's dogs. For mankind's four-legged friends the rigours of the Russian winter have long required some extra layers to keep out the cold.

But the jewel-encrusted, over-the-top creations on offer today, together with perfumes, facial masks and Swarkovski-studded leads, go way beyond the imaginings of, say, the 19th century writer Anton Chekhov, who touched on the phenomenon of women and their dogs in "Lady with Lapdog."

Unlocking the commercial potential of the instinct to pamper one's pooch are designers like Svetlana Abramova, who in 2004 launched her own brand, Very Stylish Dog (www.styledog.ru), and is now breaking into the foreign market.

She started out making clothes for humans, but began designing for her chihuahua Boniya in 2001 which soon became a full-time business.

Having got to grips with canine chic, Abramova last year created a range of matching woman and dog outfits for American firm Diamond Dogs, due to go on display in London in March and later in Los Angeles.

The luxury London department store Harrods has ordered a new autumn collection, she says.

And along with fur coats and day, evening and sports wear, her customers can push the boundaries of good taste as never before with costumes that allow their dogs to pose as bees, angels, emergency service workers or nurses.

"Cut with respect for the rules of human haute couture, and weuse only natural materials -- jersey, cashmere and silk -- because some dogs are allergic to synthetic materials," she noted.Shops like Charli in central Moscow offer not only dog apparel but numerous accessories -- including dog rucksacks for venturing far from home turf.

Charli can also give your dog a manicure and dye or plait its hair.

But while it is not unusual to see Russian women in restaurants and nightspots with a dog on one arm, the economic crisis has led to some stylistic changes.

"We today make more clothes in casual style -- more comfortable, more day-to-day and less luxury. Our clothes are being priced more accessibly but remain elegant and fashionable," said the marketing director of Very Stylish Dog, Nail Abrarov."The dogs very quickly get used to the clothes, which protect them from cold and mud. The owners, who treat the dogs like their children, don't want them to get sick," he said.

Aromatherapy Candles for your pooch

Monday, November 10, 2008

Dogs are extremely sensitive creatures who tend to pick up and internalize their owners’ emotions and feelings: positive and negative. If a dog acts upset, depressed, or low energy, perhaps this best friend has been experiencing feelings similar to those of an owner who may be dealing with stress in her personal and professional life.

Granted humans have multiple ways of dealing with accumulated stress such as taking a bath or checking oneself to a spa for a day. And what’s there to do for the dogs? Interestingly enough, essential oils, relaxing music, and human touch can help our furry best friends relieve their stress too.

To help an owner deal with a variety of dog concerns such as separation anxiety, fatigue and general stress, Best Friend NYC developed a line of Aromatherapy Canine Candles. Carefully chosen essential oil blends in Best Friend NYC Aromatherapy candles address different concerns. For example, spa-inspired “Harmonizing” blend contains green spring florals and Rose which are known to release tension and stabilize mood. “Balancing” and “De-Stress”, in addition to their self-explanatory benefits, also contain Eucalyptus and Geranium which act as natural and gentle insect repellents. All candles are designed to eliminate pet odors and naturally refresh your living space in a clean, Earth- and dog-friendly way.

Available in five essential oil blends, these canine olfactory-specific candles are handmade with 100% pure biodegradable soy wax, and come in recyclable and re-usable clear glass containers with elegant silver lids.

This holiday season give yourself a unique gift of bonding and healing through a warm sensory journey with your furry best friend.

NYC tosses old paper-based dog licensing system

Monday, August 04, 2008

No more excuses about Fido eating the paperwork. New York City dog licenses will now be offered online. Dog owners who used to have to do the whole thing by paper and the mail will be able to go through the process at www.nyc.gov.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has chocolate labs named Bonnie and Clyde, says he hopes tossing the old paper system will make life easier for dog lovers. The city says the wait time for new licenses and renewals will now be cut in half, to about 10 days instead of a month. Officials are also hoping that this streamlined service will get more dogs licensed. Just 20 percent of the city's estimated half a million dogs are registered.

We also view it as an environmental step in an effort to reduce unnecessary paper waste.

Modern day Toto does charity work and gets nominated to the Hall of Fame

Friday, July 25, 2008

By Bob Keefer

Every show has at least one star who just might run off with the audience’s heart. In the Oregon Festival of American Music production of “The Wizard of Oz,” which opens Friday at the Hult Center, that actor’s name is Gracie.Gracie is the 4½-year-old Jack Russell terrier/poodle mix who’s been cast as Toto, the dog that accompanies Dorothy from Kansas to Oz.

Her career took off, almost in spite of the Langs, when they took her to a trainer to help contain her outgoing energy and, quite separately, noticed that strangers often stopped them on the street to comment on how cute she was.Now Gracie, who performs about 40 different tricks — one is opening a Gail Lang’s purse, removing a wallet and taking a dollar bill from it — has not only become a star of stage and television (she’s done several commercials and has been on local TV news) but also makes numerous live charity appearances in and around Eugene.

With the help of former Elmira dog trainer Chris Denning, Gracie — and the Langs — began making appearances around town, helping out with fundraisers for everything from the Rotary Club to the Eugene Symphony.

She’s raised more than $6,000 for charity, Lang said. Gracie’s work also led her to be inducted into the Oregon Animal Hall of Fame earlier this year. Full story...

Vacationing with your best friend

Tuesday, July 08, 2008

Call them the dog days of summer - literally! Pets are on the go like never before as doting pet owners pack 'em along for summer vacations everywhere.Your pet is your best friend! Who wouldn't want to share your best times with your best friend.According to celebrity dog trainer Daniela Sodero, some people are even building vacations around their dogs.

While canoeing will have some dogs howling, others will howl with delight for the Ventanas al Paraiso in Los Cabos, Mexico, which offers a pets' luxury program, including special spa food, massages and even pet cabanas.  In fact, an increasing number of hotels and travel destinations are opening their doors to our four-legged companions.

Taking along Tux spares owners the stress of finding a kennel or friend who can dog-sit, as well as worrying about how their pet is doing without them. Most dogs love exploring new places, and their enthusiasm on trips can be infectious. Dogs need vacations too, and exposing them to different sights, sounds and smells boosts their confidence and mental stimulation.

However, not all vacation destinations lend themselves to pets, including cruise ships or tour groups; and not all pooches travel well - one in six dogs suffers from motion sickness.

Planning is key to smooth sailing ahead. While some countries are simple to travel to, for example, the United States only requires that dogs to be in good health and have a current rabies vaccine to enter, some other countries, such as the U.K., have stringent policies, including mandatory quarantine periods.

Safety Tips

- Restrain dogs, either in a crate or harnessed in a seatbelt.

- Don't allow your dog to stick their heads out the windows of a moving vehicle -- they could jump or fall out, or suffer eye or ear damage.

- Always leash a dog before opening the car door to avoid it rushing out into traffic.

- Never leave them in the car alone temperatures can reach dangerous levels.

- Proper I.D. is crucial: List your contact information, including cell number, on a custom dog tag attached to a secure dog collar. Add a city dog tag so info can be accessed if someone calls in the tag.

- Be prepared with vets' contact info along your route.

- Don't let your dog drink from dirty water - such as from puddles, ponds or water in parking lots.

- Be sure your dog is up-to-date with shots. If canine motion sickness is a problem, check out a new treatment called Cerenia.

- Look for hotels that are dog-friendly while planning your vacation together.
